Caroline Bolen
KuunneltuCaroline Bolen’s 1988 death in Silsbee, TX presented a real conundrum to investigators. No one, including the pathologist, was even certain that her death was a homicide. “Carol” had been found dead in her bed, nude and posed, with blood on the bedding and her young son alive next to her. The bizarre case had suspects coming out of the woodwork, but police followed the evidence, which led to none of the men in Caroline’s life. When IGG finally pointed to Caroline’s killer, the answer was surprising… because he had been there all along.
Doe ID Mary McLeod Davidson Moffatt
KuunneltuIn 1995, a violently murdered Jane Doe who came to be known as the Danforth Lady was found under a building excavation at the old Robertson Motors in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. TPS efforts to identify her went nowhere, even when they finally obtained DNA, which was degraded and heavily contaminated due to the age of the remains. Earlier this year, a final attempt to extract precious genetic material paid off, and Danforth Lady was identified as Mary McLeod Davidson Moffatt. TPS Det. Const. Mike Kelly was able to reconstruct Mary’s story, and to identify a prime suspect in her murder. The answers were shocking, but also meant justice at long last for Mary.
The Four Sexual Assault Survivors of Unknown John Doe Offender
KuunneltuIn 2001, an 84 year old woman was raped in her home in Manchester, CT. In 2004, another Manchester woman was raped. In 2007, another. In 2008, a fourth woman from the neighboring town of Vernon was victimized. A recognizable pattern emerged, and investigators knew they had a serial rapist on their hands. But they didn’t know who he was. A John Doe warrant provided probable cause for arrest, but 10 years elapsed before IGG gave a name to John Doe. And the identity of the suspect would shock the community to its core.
DOE ID: Sadie Belle Murray AKA Sarah Sharkey
KuunneltuIn July 1971, a living Jane Doe was found beaten and unconscious on a rural dirt road in Howard County, MD. The woman lingered for nearly two months before succumbing to her injuries, but was never able to communicate, so her identity remained unknown. Not until a determined investigator applied IGG to her case was her name revealed: Sarah Sharkey. While news of her identification reunited long lost family members, there remain a lot of questions about who killed Sarah.
Introducing The Consult: Real FBI Profilers — The Tylenol Murders
KuunneltuIn the fall of 1982, seven people in the Chicago area died after taking Extra-Strength Tylenol capsules that had been deliberately laced with cyanide. The poisonings triggered a nationwide panic, an enormous investigation, and changes to product packaging that are still with us today. More than four decades later, no one has ever been charged with the murders. In this episode of The Consult: Real FBI Profilers, retired FBI profiler Julia Cowley is joined by her former FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit colleagues Angela Sercer, Susan Kossler Drew, and Bob Drew to examine the Tylenol Murders from a behavioral perspective. Who was the offender targeting? What can the method of poisoning tell us about motive, planning, and risk? And what does the behavior suggest about the person responsible?

Patricia 'Patsy' Barnes Part 1 of 2
KuunneltuIn the summer of 1995, Patricia “Patsy” Barnes was a fixture in the Seattle, WA transient community. Patsy never met a stranger, and when she disappeared, police had a lot of work to do to try to figure out who shot her, wrapped her nude body in an old sleeping bag, and dumped her in a ditch in a residential neighborhood in Kitsap County. Despite their best efforts and a detailed sketch of her abductor, the case went unsolved. It took four consistent samples of DNA and IGG to identify her killer, whose own story was a tale as old as time, with a dramatic finalé.
Introducing Campus Killings Season 5 premiere; Episode 79 The case of Haley Anderson
KuunneltuWhen Binghamton University student, Haley Anderson, stopped answering her friends’ texts, they knew something was very wrong. A subsequent search revealed Haley was dead in a mutual friend’s apartment. But this friend was nowhere to be found. An investigation would reveal a murder, a runaway to Nicaragua, and justice that would span two continents.
DOE ID Gary Herbst
KuunneltuThis episode discusses the case of a 'John Doe' who would be identified through investigative genetic genealogy as Gary Herbst.
Eileen Zarlenga
KuunneltuEpisode 205 Eileen Zarlenga Single mom Eileen Zarlenga disappeared from her home on a cold night in March 1988, taking her coat, boots and purse, but leaving behind her three year old daughter. Eileen remained missing for 4 days, and when she was found, it was not good news. The question of who stabbed the young mother over and over and left her body in a remote patch of woods in Mahoning County, OH would haunt generations of investigators. When DNA was detected on sexual assault kit swabs, it did not get investigators any closer to an answer. And when IGG came along and was used to identify Eileen's attacker, real answers remained elusive. Eileen's case is closed, but you won't see the end of this one coming. And things he took away with him indicated that he had a personal interest in one of his victims. She never made it home. Her little body was found less than 48 hours later in a cornfield. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled. A very strong suspect was named, and then ruled out. Over the decades police heard of several confessions and investigated persons of interest, but they never came close to catching Kelly's killer. A 2014 CrimeStoppers tip naming him got his name close, but not close enough for investigators to identify him. Finally forensic genealogy tracked him down. He was dead, but once police learned his name, they were not surprised. Harold Warren Jarrell had a history of sex…

The killer had left his blood at the crime scene, but no hits were generated when his profile was entered into CODIS. But it turned out that it should have been. Holly's killer, a man no one suspected, would have been identified years earlier if DNA collection protocols had been followed. Not until he was named by forensic genealogy as a suspect were detectives able…

Doe ID: Donna Lass
KuunneltuEpisode 181 Doe ID: Donna Lass In 1986, a human skull was found along Highway 20 and Interstate 80, 45 miles northwest of South Lake Tahoe, CA. At the time, investigators couldn't come to many conclusions other than the fact the skull belonged to a young woman, likely in her 20s, and she had been murdered. Years later DNA & genealogy would finally reveal the truth; the skull belonged to Donna Ann Lass, a 25 year-old nurse who vanished on September 6,1970 after finishing her shift at the Sahara Hotel Casino. An unknown man called Donna's employer to tell her Donna had left town for a family emergency, which turned out not to be true. Donna Lass was never seen again. It didn't take long for an infamous serial killer, 'The Zodiac', to seemingly latch himself to Donna's case, possibly providing clues, and taunting investigators. For decades, Zodiac's possible involvement muddied the waters in the Lass investigation. All these years later, we may know what happened to Donna, but we don't know who was responsible.…

Audrey Hoellein Part 1 of 2
KuunneltuEpisode 180 Audrey Hoellein Part 1 of 2 The 1994 murder of Audrey Hoellein on her bed in her Vancouver, WA apartment led to a very complex investigation with a large number of suspects. The case relied heavily on forensic testing, which found the DNA of two men on Audrey's comforter. Investigators could identify only one of them, and he was, for a time, the prime suspect. But it was the unidentified one – "Individual A" – whom the police zeroed in on. Once IGG identified him, and authorities started to put together their case against him, it opened a whole can of worms. The ending is not what you would expect. Marilyn Decker
KuunneltuEpisode 178 Marilyn Decker Marilyn Decker's mutilated body, wrapped in a pink plastic bag, was found floating in a Davie, FL canal in 1987. Her case was complex and featured many shady and transient suspects, but detectives could not pin the crime on any of them. It seemed the case would forever remain unsolved, until one determined detective took a chance on rootless hair evidence, and IGG. And those hairs led to a man police never suspected, an itinerant, seasoned criminal whose violent crimes are just now coming to light. This episode is sponsored by MasterClass. Phyllis Bailer
KuunneltuEpisode 176 Phyllis Bailer In 1972, Phyllis Bailer and her toddler daughter set out to make an evening drive to her parents' house for a weekend visit. The drive from their home in Indianapolis to Bluffton, IN should have taken less than two hours. But Phyllis and her child never made it. The next day came awful news for Phyllis's family when she was found dead in a ditch. Her young daughter Jodi was by her side, and suffered only a small injury. And so began a decades-long investigation into Phyllis's murder. A prime suspect focused on by the investigators for years and years seemed like the logical culprit. But police and Phyllis's family would not have definitive answers until IGG came along and pointed them in an entirely different direction. Barbara Villarreal Part 1 of 2
KuunneltuEpisode 174 Barbara Villarreal Part 1 of 2 In this Season 6 opener, you'll hear the jaw-dropping, twisty case of Barbara Carr Villarreal. Barbara was stabbed to death in her Garland, TX home in 1986. Her husband was also attacked in the home invasion. But stories and evidence did not match up, and police were left chasing their tails, and chasing their prime suspect who was in the wind. Nothing in this case was as it seemed to be, and justice for Barbara seemed unattainable. Modern investigators had to solve an identity theft case to find the true name of the person they believed was behind Barbara's murder, and then had to use kinship testing to finally name her murderer. DNA ID Replay Kim Bryant and Diana Hanson
KuunneltuEpisode 173 DNA ID Replay Kim Bryant and Diana Hanson While Jess is on winter break preparing new episodes of DNA ID for 2026, we are airing some of our favorite one part episodes weekly in what we call 'DNA ID Replay' episodes. These Replay episodes will air every week while on break with the exception of Christmas week. In this episode, we explore the case of Kim Bryant and Diana Hanson which originally aired in episode 37. 1979 Las Vegas, a weekday morning. 16 year old Kim Bryant was at a Dairy Queen waiting for her ride – and then she was gone. Her body was found a month later, sexually assaulted, beaten and murdered. A notorious serial killer was the only real suspect – he was executed in Texas, but he didn't kill her. When a tip came in in 2019, new testing was conducted on the biological evidence in Kim's case that isolated a male DNA profile. Forensic genealogy led to the name of a suspect, and further testing of his living relatives revealed that he was the killer of Kim Bryant. But naming him also…
